A unique opportunity for JMC students was discussed!

On Thursday, February 21 ¾ÅÉ«Íø Administration met with Jeffrey Ridenour, Information Officer of the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe, Cori Bickel, Cultural Affairs Officer of the U.S. Embassy in Kyrgyz Republic, ÌýSean Callaghan, Director of Program Development, and Lydia Hamilton, Program Officer of the global leadership organization to discuss the collaboration possibilities.

At the very beginning, ¾ÅÉ«Íø Vice-President/COO, Chingiz Shamshiev, introduced the university mission and goals to the guests. He pointed out the importance of implementing a focused education on investigative journalism, data collection, and media literacy. “The impact of this education could be higher in the democratic countries where the freedom of expression existsâ€: addressed Mr.Shamshiev.

The main topic of discussion was the launch of the Summer Institute of Journalism on the basis of Meridian International Center that will provide quality education and professional exchange opportunities to the United States of America for students and journalists from the Central Asian countries. Participants of the program will be able to visit different media outlets and see how they operate.

Meridian develops several dynamic programs each year which explore contemporary issues that directly impact members o the media around the world. These issues include:

  • Freedom of the press
  • The protection of journalists
  • The impact of digital media on diplomacy

Meridian also has key partnerships with members of the media in the nation’s capital, and through these platforms, increases awareness of key developments in the international arena.
